Coloring a Stamp with a Stencil

Happy Saturday Stampers! This is Michelle from East Bay Stamp Chick. I have an easy way to color in a large stamp for you today.  Let me show you the card I made.

I used the large stamp from the Poinsettia Greetings stamp set. Instead of coloring it in as I normally would, I used the new Vintage Doily Stencil to add color to the stamped image. I think its a pretty cool effect! So here's how I did it.

I started by stamping the image in a light grey ink. This gave me a guide to line up the stencil where I wanted it. I laid the Vintage Doily Stencil over my stamped image, making sure I covered the whole image. I started ink blending in the center working my way out, starting with a light yellow ink in the center, then an orange red, a true red and then finally a deep burgundy on the edges. I used blending brushes but you can use whatever blending tool you have. This technique works best with an image that has a lot of open areas and not a lot of small detail.

Next I put my paper back in my Misti and stamped over the image with Versamark embossing ink. I used a black embossing powder and heat set it. I fussy cut the poinsettia. I cut as close tot he embossed lines as I could. A great trick to make your cutting look perfect, is to run a black marker around the cut image. This hides all the white cardstock and makes it blend with the embossed line. I added the poinsettia to a white panel that had been fry embossed with an embossing folder. The sentiment is in gold embossing powder from the Christmas Poinsettia stamp set.

Here's a look at the items I used to create my card.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you have some time to get crafty this weekend!
