Mixed Media, 3 Different Ways

Hello Friends!

Today seemed like a good day to try something a bit different.  There were lots of bits and pieces on my desk- colored images, monoprints, and various other backgrounds.  I thought it would be fun to put some of these items to use and create mixed media cards.
I think a lot of us have a certain idea of what mixed media is in our heads- lots of texture, layers, and lots and lots of products- sprays, pastes, metal items, tissue paper, pencils, crayons, gel mediums to name a few.  However, in the card making world, many consider a mixed media card to be two or more mediums on a card.
So, here we go.  I have 3 different cards, varying in complexity and using different mediums.
The first is super CAS!

The two mediums are watercolor and acrylic paint.
Here is the how to~
The background panels are from a single monoprint using acrylic paint and a stencil.  If you are not familiar with monoprinting, it involves using a gel plate like the ones here.  Acrylic paint was dropped on and rolled out with a Printing Brayer.  The leaf panel is two stamps- the leaf is from the Autumn Splendor Stamp Set and the doodled square is from the Just Be Stamp Set. I stamped and masked the leaf onto water color paper, then stamped the square.  The image was then watercolored with Ken Oliver Color Bursts and fussy cut out. I doodled lines around my background panels using a Sakura Pigma Micron Pen.  Some acrylic paint splatters finish off the leaf image.
The next card has a bit more going on~

The flower, which is from the Mason Jar Bouquet Stamp Set, was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink on water color paper, painted with Ken Oliver Color Bursts and fussy cut out.  The background is stamped multiple times with the floral branch from the Birds and Blooms Stamp Set and colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I added dies cuts from a new die I was trying out and heat embossed a sentiment from the Singing Praises Stamp Set.
This third card is what you may consider to be a more traditional mixed media project.  It was inspired by our own Julee Tilman!

I had another flower laying around, wanting to be used on a card.  It was stamped on watercolor paper with Versafine Onyx Black Ink , water colored with Ken Oliver Color Bursts and then fussy cut out.  My mixed media panel was one I made when trying to replicate something that Julee had made.  Well, mine fell really short!  I was going to toss it, but, when placed next to the color orange, it suddenly came to life.  I also had a piece of patterned paper that had been spritzed with a couple of different shimmery sprays; the colors worked perfectly with the orange rose and the teal panel.  The sentiment is from the new, Sentimental Mash Up Stamp Set.  This card uses water colors, sprays, embossing paste and distress oxides.

There you have it, 3 mixed media cards, all with very different looks.  Which do you like best?
I hope I have inspired you to get messy today!

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed week!

Love One Another

Hello Sweet 'n Sassy friends!  The new What a Savior stamp set designed by Nina Brackett contains beautiful images and lyrics for creating encouraging cards.  This set was used to make the card I am sharing today.

The Gilded Faux Silk Technique was used to make the background for this card. The beautiful scripture image from the What a Savior stamp set was stamped once in Cherry Cobbler ink and once silver embossed.  The silver embossed banner was cut and popped onto the Cherry Cobbler image.  A few hearts were die cut and wrapped with metallic silver thread.  A few rhinestones were added to finish the card.

Have you had a chance to check out the new Love One Another Printables designed by Diane Noble? They were created for Bible Journaling, but oh, how perfect for creating cards and other wonderful projects!  The printables were used to make magnets, table centerpieces, and tags/bookmarks for the ladies who attended our church's Ladies' Conference.

Alcohol Inks were used to cover two inch unglazed tiles.  The Printables were resized, cut out and attached to the tiles with gel matte medium.  A label maker was used to make the Godly descriptions.  Each tile was covered with a clear glaze and a magnet attached to the back.

Quotes were computer generated and the Printables were again resized and attached to the top of each quote.  Distress inks were used to watercolor mixed media paper and flowers from the Whimsy Bouquet and Fantastic Flowers stamp sets were cut out and used to frame the quote.

The Love One Another Printables were also used to create this tag/bookmark. Memento inks were sponged over tissue paper on which Proverbs 31 had been printed.  Images from the Just Be and Whimsy Bouquet stamp sets were also used on the tag and were colored with PrismaColor Pencils.

These products are available at the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store.

Be sure to check out these products and more at the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store.  We can't wait to see your creations made with our stamps!
Thanks so much for stopping by...have a wonderful day!

Be brave

Hello everyone! For the card for today I finally got out my watercolors again. I love to play with watercolor paints but I don't use them enough ;). I love the beautiful flowing colorful effects you can get with them.

For this card I stamped two feathers from His Wings on watercolor paper and I used embossing powder to prepare them for my watercolors. The embossing powder makes a great base for watercoloring while the lines stay a bit raised so you can create 'puddles' of color on your card (and it's easier to stay in the lines haha).

After my watercolors dried I diecut my watercolored panel and adhered it on a patterned paper. I diecut a smaller frame for my message and added that to my card with foam tape. I added a little piece of blue twine behind the frame and added a couple of sequins to finish my card!

For this card I used three stamp sets:

be still

Good morning! I have two CAS cards to share with you today using some of the Sweet 'n Sassy Bible Journaling sets.

My first card today was created with this verse in mind... Psalm 46:10  He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

I kept it clean & simple, with a watercolored background.

I used the Sweet 'n Sassy set Just Be which was created for bible journaling but as you can see, these sets are great for cards too!

My second card uses the His Wings stamp set along with some accents from Note This (hearts) and Just Be (little circles).

I love the feathers in this set!  I only wanted them on half of the background, so I tore a post-it note mask and watercolored the right side. When dry, I stamped the feathers and birds.

Have a great weekend.  Thanks for popping in and… happy stamping!
Diane

Hope in the Lord

Hello, sweet friends!  Cathy here with a few samples to share with you using some of the new stamps sets that have just been added to the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store!   These three new stamp sets added to the Creative Worship line coordinate so well together and are all now available as a pre-order!

Words of Life: Collection 3 was designed by Korin Sutherland.

Just Be was designed by Rebecca Rios.

Choose Faith was designed by Korin Sutherland and Brenda Weaver.  This stamp set is part of our regular Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps line, but is perfect for Bible journaling as well.

This wonderful Bible page was created by Monika using the new Choose Faith stamp set.  Don't you just love the little vellum flowers cut with the Flower/Clover Dies she added to her page?

The thing I love the most about all of the new Bible Journaling sets is that they are also perfect for creating encouraging cards.  Here are some uplifting samples made by the SNSS Creative Crew using these new stamp sets:

In this fun sample, Susie was able to combine elements from Just Be and Words of Life: Collection 3 as well as Seek Him.

How gorgeous is this!?  Julie created this card using the new Choose Faith stamp set and Precious Poppies.

His Wings which was released at the end of February as part of the Creative Worship Line is currently available at the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store.  The feathers were white embossed on a piece of mixed media paper.  Tombow markers were scribbled on a piece of acetate, sprayed with a little water and smooshed onto the card stock.  Each color was dried before adding the next color.  Some of the feathers were fussy cut, tied together, and added to the card.  The sentiment is from the new Choose Faith stamp set.  See how well all of these stamp sets work together!

Here is another card using His Wings, but this time very clean and simple.  Check out the amazing sentiment on this one.  It's a sneak peek from our fabulous new Creative Worship Kit being revealed next Friday!  You must check back next week to see this incredible kit…all I can say is you won't want to miss this one…you won't be disappointed!

His Wings was designed by Korin Sutherland and is now available for shipping!

Be sure to check out these new products and more at the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Store!
Until next time…happy stamping and Bible Journaling!
Have a wonderful day!

Your are Loved in Him

Hello Thursday Friends!

I am usually very nervous about water coloring because I am sort of a control freak.  So this tends to be the extent of it for me.  Even though it is primitive, it makes me happy.  Now on to the stamps: I love the sets I used because you can mix and match them.  These sets are really popular for Bible Jounaling, but for me as a card maker, they are wonderful and versatile stamps too.

Here is a list of the sets I used:
Creative Worship Just Be (coming soon)
Creative Worship Words of Life Collection 3 (coming soon)

Be sure to check out all the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps
wonderful clear stamps.

Have a marvelous day and we'll be back tomorrow with another post.
